You will be greeted at your hotel, airport, port or outside your cruise terminal and after one hour and twenty minutes you will make your way to the most authentic and famous ancient town of Corinth where Saint Paul leaved and preached for two years. Back in the ancient times, explore the ruins of ancient Corinth and see the Corinth Canal.
The Corinth Canal will be our firts short stop, The Isthmus of Corinth, the narrow piece of land that once linked a strip of land and now with the canal separates the Peloponnese from Central Greece, connecting the two seas, the Corinthian and the Saronic Gulf.
One of the most important projects of modern Greece, which played a catalytic role for the Mediterranean trade, the canal of the Isthmus of Corinth, has constituted an inspiration for centuries and was completed … 25 centuries after the conception of its idea.
The “Afneios Corinth” since the ancient times was one of the most important cities of the then known world, but also of modern Greece. Its geographical position has highlighted it to a great Navy, Commerce and Cultural Centre. Eventually the canal was opened in 25.7.1893 in the presence of the Kings and the Government, officiated by the eparch of Corinth the opening of the Corinth Canal was made. The opening of the Isthmus, one of the greatest achievements of the construction period, shortened the sea route from Piraeus to Italy by half. Also AGT (Athens Greece Transfer & Tours) gives to lovers of extreme sports the opportunity for a dive into the void from of 78 m height due to the fact that a team of experienced bungee jumping trainers can be found at the Isthmus’s bridge.
Shortly after, we reach the city of Corinth.
¨Ου παντος πλειν ες Κορινθον¨ and indeed, it was not easy for everyone to anchor in this rich city, whose fame in antiquity had reached the ends of the then known world due to its wealth and prosperity.
The Sun and Neptune were the two gods that claimed this part of the Peloponnese. The site of ancient Corinth was first inhabited in the Neolithic period (6500-3250 B.C.). It is located at the northern base of the hill of Acrocorinth at the site of today’s agglomeration, Ancient Corinth. The city was dominated by the hill of Acrocorinth and the old castle, The site located at the foothill includes the Roman Agora of Corinth, the Temple of God Apollo and the small Museum. Ancient Corinth is also one of the most popular religious destinations in Greece, this was where the Apostle Paul preached Christianity and established the best organized Christian church of that period.
After that, you will board your vehicle and drive back in Athens and begin your tour with a visit at the Acropolis Hill, you will have the opportunity to see the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, the Propylaea and of course the Parthenon. With this Acropolis day tour you will enjoy one of the top UNESCO'S world heritage monuments.
From the Acropolis, you can also look down on the Ancient Agora, the Tower of the Winds, Monastiraki and Plaka, a combination of the old and new Athens, where the old and modern co-exist in harmony, in a commercial nostalgic area, reminiscent of the East and West.
Next stop is going is going to be a traditional Greek tavern with authentic Greek dishes or fresh fish - seafood by the sea.
You will then continue on to see the Temple of Zeus the largest in Ancient Greece taking over 700 years to build.
A few streets away, we can find the Panathenaic Olympic Stadium also known as Kallimarmaro, the only major stadium entirely built of white marble which is one of the oldest in the world. The “sports jewel” of the city that hosted the revival of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 and is full of images of yesterday.
We continue from the “historical center” to the center of today, the Syntagma Square and the Parliament Building with the impressive changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, while around one can find many shops and their impressive windows. From here, you will continue to Panepistimiou Street to see numerous neoclassical buildings still standing and dating back to the late 19th century (The Academy - The University - The National Library).
